The Holy Messiness of New Seasons

The Holy Messiness of New Seasons

There’s something about spring that always gets me thinking about the seasons of life. (Honestly, every season has me doing this...lol). Maybe it’s the way everything suddenly bursts into color, or how the trees seem to wake up overnight like they’ve had their morning coffee.

Or maybe it’s because as moms, we feel that shift deep in our bones…the schedules pick up after the long winter break, baseball is in high gear, spring cleaning is a necessity and suddenly everyone in the house is sneezing like pollen has a personal vendetta. I love how you can look around and see wild daisies and lilies and tulips blooming in random places.

Spring is beautiful, yes… but it’s also a little bit chaotic!

But every year, right in the middle of the chaos, God whispers the same reminder to me: new things grow in messy places.

I think about how much pruning happens in spring. Branches get cut back, flower beds get cleaned out and the things that looked “fine” a month ago suddenly need attention...enter SPRING CLEANING!

But honestly? That feels a lot like my own heart. New seasons have a way of exposing the clutter…the hurry, the worry, the habits I outgrew last season without even noticing.

Growth requires clearing. Flourishing requires letting go.

And yet, tucked within all that pruning is purpose. God isn’t cutting back just to cut back…

He’s making room.

Room for joy.

Room for strength.

Room for deeper roots and brighter blooms.

Spring reminds me that the mess isn’t a sign of failure, it’s a sign that something is happening beneath the surface.

But here’s what I always come back to: God does some of His best work in the messiest seasons.

And Jesus says it so clearly in John 15:2 - that every fruitful branch is pruned so it can become even more fruitful.

That verse hits differently in spring, when everything around us is being cut back before it blooms again.

Because pruning isn’t punishment. It’s preparation.

God is tending to you just as intentionally as He tends the random lilies, wild daisies and the budding trees. Something beautiful is forming beneath the surface…even if, right now, all you can see is the mess.

So as this new season unfolds, take a deep breath. Look for the small sprouts of hope. And remember...pruning is the first sign that fruit is coming. Every beautiful bloom starts it's journey in a little holy mess.

"He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful." John 15:2.
