The Things We Forget to Be Grateful For
Share
Some lessons show up quietly… and some show up like a pinched nerve that lays you flat on the couch for a week and a half. Debilitating. Ask me how I know. 😅
This week has been a slow, humbling reminder that the things we rush past…our health, our movement, our normal…are actually some of the greatest blessings we have.
On Sunday, I was simply blow drying my hair before church and something in my back decided to rebel. (A friendly reminder that I’m no longer a spring chicken I guess…😜)
One moment I was fine, and the next I was stuck on the couch, heating pad cranked to high, praying I could stand upright again someday. And as frustrating as it’s been, it also brought this unexpected awareness: we take so much for granted without meaning to.
When was the last time you thanked God for simply being able to walk across the room? Or lift a hamper of laundry without wincing? Or bend down to pick up something off the floor? Or simply stand up without pain? Walk. Hear. Feel…the use of all the senses God gifted us with.
We get so used to doing everything on autopilot that we stop noticing the miracle of it all.
Two legs to walk. Two arms to carry what life hands us. Eyes that let us see the faces we love. Ears that hear laughter and I love you’s. A heartbeat steady enough to carry us through another day.
These aren’t small gifts…they’re everyday mercies that we only realize are precious when something goes wrong.
Lying on the couch this week slowed me down in all the ways I never chose for myself. It made space for gratitude. Perspective. And honestly? A whisper of conviction. I don’t want to wait for something to go wrong to appreciate the things that are going right.
Funny how life does that huh? We take the little things for granted without even realizing it…thankfully, this was just a temporary setback!
So here’s my reminder to you, friend…pause today. Notice. Thank God for what’s working, even if other parts of life feel heavy or hard.
Gratitude doesn’t make the pain disappear, but it absolutely shifts the weight.
There is always, always, ALWAYS something to be thankful for. 💛
